ADVANTEC was retained by the City of Redondo Beach to design traffic signal upgrades at six intersections along Artesia Boulevard and to prepare a median modification plan at the intersection of Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Inglewood Avenue. The signal upgrades included installation of video detection systems, protected-permissive left-turn (PPLT) phasing, LED vehicle and pedestrian signal heads, audible pedestrian signals, emergency vehicle preemption (EVP) detectors, internally illuminated street name signs, new conduits, and rewiring with multi-conductor cables. Timing sheets were developed to reflect new PPLT and EVP operations. For the median modification, ADVANTEC conducted traffic counts and analysis to determine the proper length for eastbound dual left-turn lanes, followed by preparation of detailed 1”=10’ and 1”=40’ design plans. ADVANTEC also prepared bid documents, supported the City through the bidding and construction phases, and optimized corridor-wide signal timing for AM, midday, and PM peak periods, including on-site implementation using Caltrans C8 format.
