Garden Grove Blvd Regional Traffic Signal Synchronization

Orange County Transportation Authority

The Garden Grove Boulevard Regional Traffic Signal Synchronization Project was a design-build effort led by ADVANTEC as the prime consultant, delivering comprehensive Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) upgrades and signal synchronization for 34 intersections across Garden Grove, Westminster, Orange, Santa Ana, and Caltrans jurisdictions. ADVANTEC’s responsibilities included preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E); procurement of traffic signal equipment and ITS components such as ATC controllers, cabinets, fiber optic communication systems, Ethernet switches, CCTV systems, and a new TMC video wall. The project incorporated cross-jurisdictional coordination and timing analysis using Synchro and Tru-Traffic to develop optimized signal timing plans for peak and weekend traffic periods. ADVANTEC also served as the Systems Engineer and Construction Manager, overseeing system integration, testing, commissioning, and final approvals. Project innovations included the collaborative selection and installation of a 2x3 video wall with 55” monitors in the City of Garden Grove’s Traffic Management Center, supported by thorough field assessments and value engineering during design to minimize construction changes and optimize deployment.
