Communications Master Plan

ADVANTEC has prepared a plan to provide all unincorporated western Riverside County traffic signals with data communication for the purpose of remote monitoring. The project’s primary goal is to provide timely notification of power loss events so the traffic signal maintenance division can address them before the battery back-up units are exhausted. The intersections are grouped into tiers, with short-term and long-term communication strategies identified for each tier. Short-term strategies focus on leased/cellular facilities to minimize lead time. Long-term strategies focus on agency-owned communication to minimize recurring cost.

As part of our role, ADVANTEC is coordinating with Riverside County’s Information Technology group to ensure the recommendations are in conformance with County technology policy, and reaching out to vendors to advise County staff on available technology.

Key Features:

  • Traffic Signal Monitoring and Control

  • Wireless and Fiber Optic Ethernet media

  • Coordination with Enterprise IT staff

  • Hardware and software vendor interfacing

  • Cost estimating/budgeting for technology procurement

  • Prioritization of intersections by need
